First stop was Aunt Debbie's Knit & Stitch- very cool! I found this Malabrigo, which when I intended to not buy anything I had to get this. Thinking for a shawl or shrug to take to Paris, what do you think? It's very pretty shades of jade greens and dusty blues, love it!

Then we discovered a cool local shop, Suzanne's- super cute clothes! My mum and I both got a new top each, then on to VV Boutique- yuck, not a good thrifting day apparently!

I had this vision in my mind and me not knowing all the ways of quilting and applique other than the basics, I thought, wow! I am sheer genius coming up with this!

reverse applique

Turns out reverse applique has been around for like a billion years. But that's ok, as I have a little twist on it, as you can see. Rather than making the entire quilt sandwich first as it's usually done, then cutting away the bits (brown in this case) to the exposed layers underneath (pieced patterned leaf), I cut the hole first, then pressed back the hem & positioned & pinned the leaf in place underneath the top layer, then hand-stitched it in place. This way I can mess with positioning of the colours of the leaves I'm doing as I go. Loving how it's working so far! I'll show it to you again soon once I have more leaves in place.

The end result will be a fab gift for an upcoming bday girl, and also a pattern which I intend to share with you! Coming very soon! I promise!
