These are 2 little paintings I just finished, they are approx. 5" x 5", painted onto wood (mdf) blocks, so they can either stand up on their own or hang on a nail with a small hole we drilled in the backs.
These 2 will go up on Etsy and I'm making a bunch for Make it which is coming up fast already....!
What do you think?
I found this $2 birdcage on our last thriftapalooza adventure and thought it would make a super cool hanging lamp!
We- Norm aka Best Husband in the World- bought the chandelier lighting supplies, spraypainted the cage black, and installed the light fixture complete with flicker bulb, hung it up and voila!
I soooo ♥ how it turned out!
Yesterday was the Granville Island Ferries Great Garbage Can art contest at Granville Island in Vancouver. We were up and at 'em early, dropped Starry off at my bro & SIL's place for doggy sitting for the day- thank you again you guys!- and off we went by 9:00. You know those huge coffee cups we recently got? They should come with a warning: Don't fill as per usual if you plan to take a long car ride soon after. I needed a pit stop! Then, about halfway there I realized i had forgotten a very important element for my garbage can project, left it sitting on my art table. Sigh....! Luckily, there was a Walmart on the way & they were already open so we ran in and got what I needed, and got back on the road, arriving just in time to nab the last sunny spot to work at in the contest! (Let me tell you- getting a sunny spot is very important! It's coooold by the water where they have it set up!)
Things got underway at 11am, I had my stuff set up and my pinking shears ready to go!
We had 4 hours to complete our cans, just enough time. A few fabulous friends stopped by to check it all out- Carol & Mike, Ev, and Christa G- who I had never met in person before- very cool!
I could have done more but I had to make myself stop, about 5 min. shy of the "Paintbrushes down!". Done!!
Ta da! Cupcake can! (I had left the important styro ball I used for the cherry on top at home- bah!- thank goodness for Walmart on the way!)
Here's my pal Nicci B's can, Vampire Soup.
And my pal Laura G's can, Clue.
And guess what- I won first prize! $250! I've entered before but never gotten first, the best I've done before is tie for 2nd. Yay!
Nicci tied for 2nd/3rd.
I've already spent some, I went shopping for some new clothes- 2 pairs of jeans & 2 tops and I still have some left over- hooray!
Today I'm pooped! We did our long walk with Starry since it's supposed to get rainy and cold for the rest of the week. And now it's time to sit & knit!
