I love the dog days of summer, you know the ones where everybody is just taking their time, not doing much, sloooow down before the big back to school rush begins. It's been a bit quieter this week so I've had a chance to get some other stuff done I've had waiting on the backburner for some time.
Yesterday we headed off the the States to hit up our favorites- Trader Joe's, Target, Kohl's and Joann! Wow Joann is awesome- a return trip soon is needed! Anyway, right before we left, my Free Swatch Day from Spoonflower swatch arrived- I got one of my derby fabric print, it turned out perfecto!

And is now available for sale should you wish to buy some!
Off we went to do some shopping. The border was great- midweek is the time to go for sure. Target, Kohl's & Payless first, big scores of clothes for me! 1 pair or jeans that are actually too long for me- I can't believe it either- I shoulda got 2 pairs- dangit, 2 tops, 6 prs. undies, a pair of shoes and a pair of boots- cheap! Gotta love it.
We got Chinese food for lunch at the mall and I had an icky MSG sweaty red and blotchy faced reaction to it- not cool! Thank goodness for A/C in the car- cooled me down on the way to Joann! Woot!
Ok Canada, we need a Joann up here- look at these scores I got! Huge quilting and sewing department- very envious of my american friends who can go any ole' time they want!
A stack of assorted fat quarters- $1.99/each. Yup!

Another pre-picked set- was 25% off- about $8!
There were a million other things there i would have loved to get but I restrained myself- this time!
Then over to Trader Joe's and stocked up on yummies like BBQ pulled chicken, crackers, candy(!), and found some veggie corn dogs- duh had to to try them- on the menu for tonight! Also got a cheapy bottle of white wine to try- $3.99- it's actually pretty good although I am no wine connoisseur- I like it! Then back home thru a speedy border line up- maybe 10 minutes at most, then home.
Today did a bit of work this morning, then I started making bread. My mum has a secret family recipe- no-fail bread- so I'm giving it a go.

So far so good, it rose up nicely and a zillion times better than any other recipe I've tried so far.
Wow! And check that saran wrap (Costco)- it kept a nice seal on it & poufed up like a bubble with the warmth. Once it was done rising, it was actually touching and pushing up the saran wrap. Woot!
Now they are on second rise- almost done, then into the oven which is pre-heating as we speak- mmmmmm I can't wait!
UPDATE- buns = perfection, even moreso with some divine homemade raspberry jam from Carol- mmmmmmm!

Now go wash the dishes ok?
Tomorrow a couple of small things to do work-wise then we are done for the long weekend- hurrah! I really need this break- it's been a busy summer- and I am thankful for that believe me- but even us crazy creatives need to recharge now and then.
What are you up to this lovely long weekend?

Happy September!
I saw this lil' guy at the thrift store and had to have him! He's a skunk with attitude!
Weekend was busy- crafting, sewing, quilting, that kind of stuff....
If you haven't heard, my friend Lysa and I are starting a Modern Quilt Guild out here in the Fraser Valley- come join us!
The Vancouver group is just a wee bit too far to get to- I think I have become a true Valleyite....- so we thought we'd start one out this way for all the fab Modern style quilters in the Valley- we know you're out there, come join our group! We're still working on logistics and locations but it's coming along. Very exciting!!
More as it happens!
